Niger: Floods Left At Least 217 Killed All Over the Country

Some 353,200 people have been affected by the floods in that African nation.
Niger authorities reported on Thursday that at least 217 people were killed, including 108 drowned and 109 from collapsed houses as a result of the rainy season floods.

The Government of Niger announced that it had allocated a budget of 12 billion CFA francs (18.3 million euros) to address the situation.
Heavy rains have left more than 46,500 houses damaged, 17,000 livestock and 21,100 tons of food.
In addition, 81 schools, three health centres and more than 400 shops were affected.
The leader of the military junta in Niger, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, has ordered a reorganisation of the budget and that the management should be financed essentially from the State’s own resources.
The rainy season in Niger, which covers the months of June to September, is marked by major flooding with significant loss of life and injuries as well as considerable material damage.
In 2022, more than 190 people were killed, 200 injured and 250,000 affected by the adverse weather effects, while last year left 50 dead, 80 wounded and 176,000 affected.
